We had labelled 2,330 values on 1,563 certificate records “Document extracted”, which says we read them from the certificate. 1,890 of them came from the vendor’s COA listing instead: its COA table, product card, certificate library, page text or file name. For 124, our collection for the vendor reads the certificate first and falls back to the listing without recording which one supplied each value, so we cannot show they were read from the certificate. 174 were laboratories we attributed ourselves, from the format of the lot number in the vendor’s listing. For 142, our collection takes the laboratory from the vendor’s listing and, when the listing names none, attributes it from the format of the lot number, without recording which one supplied each value.
The error was our label. These values are now labelled “Vendor stated”; the values themselves, their confidence and every score are unchanged. Each corrected field is marked “provenance corrected Oct 9, 2026” on its record, and the public API lists it under document.provenanceCorrection, except where a later correction changed the value (that correction’s notice on the record says what we show now) or found that the file is not a certificate (the record shows no values, and its correction says what the file is).
A value keeps “Document extracted” only when we read it from the archived certificate itself, or when the collection lane that supplied it declares that it read that field from the certificate or from the laboratory’s own report lookup.

Every API record keeps its stable ID, source, preserved copy, fingerprint, exact product relationship, verification status, and field-level provenance. New submissions enter a separate human moderation queue and cannot change trust scoring automatically.
